MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. The idea of a powerful Ukrainian army poses a threat to stability in Europe, especially while it remains under the control of nationalists, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated.
"This idea - that a strong army in Ukraine is necessary for ensuring strategic stability in Europe - is misguided within the current context. It represents a dangerous scheme," Peskov remarked. "Why is it so dangerous? For several reasons. Who oversees the Ukrainian military? It is the nationalist elements currently in power in Kiev. Europe cannot feel secure against the risks of extremism and aggression as long as these extremist nationalists are in control," he explained.
Peskov further emphasized, "If nationalists are in charge of a strong Ukrainian army, what kind of stability can we expect in Europe? What sort of predictability is possible in such a scenario?".
