ASTANA, February 10. /TASS/. Russia’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Alexey Borodavkin, urged caution against drawing premature conclusions about the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft following the publication of a preliminary investigation report.
"As for the investigation, it is being conducted by the relevant expert organizations of Azerbaijan, Brazil, Kazakhstan, and Russia. I urge you not to jump to hasty conclusions but to await the final results," he stated in an interview with TASS.
The ambassador emphasized that Kazakh specialists were working professionally during the investigation. "Kazakhstan is showing great professionalism and impartiality in its efforts to uncover all the circumstances surrounding this tragedy," Borodavkin noted.
"We have repeatedly said that the plane crash in Aktau is a collective tragedy, and we mourn for all those lost. President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has also expressed his condolences and apologies for the tragic incident that took place in Russian airspace. I once again offer my sincere sympathy to those who lost their loved ones in this crash and wish a swift recovery to the injured," he added.
The Embraer 190 aircraft, operated by Azerbaijan Airlines, crashed on December 25 near Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan while en route from Baku to Grozny. There were 5 crew members and 62 passengers on board, including citizens of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Thirty-eight people lost their lives.
On February 4, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Transport released a preliminary report on the investigation. The document did not provide clear conclusions about the crash's cause. It revealed that holes were found on the aircraft’s body, as well as foreign metal objects, which were sent for examination. The report also included transcripts of communications between the pilots and dispatchers, data on the aircraft's condition, detected damage, weather details for the day of the incident, and other relevant information.
