Top Russian, Burundian diplomats meet on sidelines of Russia-Africa conference

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov and Albert Shingiro discussed issues of bilateral relations and noted the need for expanding trade-and-economic and investment partnership

MOSCOW, November 8. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Burundian counterpart, Albert Shingiro, on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa ministerial conference in the Sirius Federal Territory, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"Sergey Lavrov talks with the foreign minister and development cooperation of Burundi on the sidelines of the Russia-Africa ministerial meeting began with the ceremony of signing a memorandum of understanding on political consultations between the two countries’ foreign ministries," she wrote on her Telegram channel and posted a photo of the two top diplomats inking documents.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Shingiro discussed issues of bilateral relations and noted the need for expanding trade-and-economic and investment partnership, as well as developing cooperation in the educational and humanitarian spheres.

"The sides stressed Russia’s and Burundi’s commitment to developing political dialogue and coordinating their efforts within the United Nations and other international organizations in the interests of resolving global and regional problems on the basis of the fundamental principles of international law and the United Nations Charter," the ministry said.
