Putin points to military doctrine describing instances of nuclear weapons use

The US is the sole country in the world, which used nuclear weapons in Japan without any military expediency

MOSCOW, October 27. /TASS/. Russia’s military doctrine describes all the instances when the country can employ nuclear weapons, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club on Thursday.

"We have a military doctrine and let them read it and the corresponding articles of this doctrine, which stipulates in which instances, for what reason, in connection with what and how Russia deems it possible to use weapons of mass destruction involving nuclear armaments to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and ensure the security of the Russian people," the head of state said.

The United States is the sole country in the world, which used nuclear weapons in Japan without any military expediency, Putin pointed out.

"What was the expediency of using nuclear weapons against Hiroshima and Nagasaki and actually against the peaceful civilian population? Was there a threat to the US territorial integrity or sovereignty? Of course, not. Moreover, there was no military expediency in that and the Japanese military machine had been broken and the resistance possibilities had been actually reduced to zero," he added.

Today the Unites States controls Japan so strongly that even Japanese schoolbooks do not write the truth about who used nuclear weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki," the Russian leader pointed out.

"Incidentally, Japanese schoolbooks normally say that it was the allies who delivered a nuclear strike against Japan. They [the United States] control Japan so much that even schoolbooks cannot write the truth, although this tragedy seems to be remembered each year," Putin stressed.
