Russia intends to get tough on immigration, says Security Council Secretary

MOSCOW, October 19. /TASS/. Russian authorities will introduce changes to the legislature, which will tighten immigration control, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said after the Security Council meeting Wednesday.

"Legislative changes are planned, which will tighten immigration control and liability for violating the rules of stay in our country for foreign citizens," he said.

Patrushev added that law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies have been tasked with identifying members of international terrorist and extremist organizations that use migration channels to commit terrorist acts and other crimes..

"Large-scale measures to maintain law and order in places of compact residence of migrants are planned," he added.

According to the Secretary, the Security Council also paid significant attention to the social cultural adaptation of foreign citizens, on the education of their children under Russian general education programs.

"There were other orders given to the Russian government and the involved Ministries and agencies, as well as to Presidential Representatives in Federal Districts of Russia and heads of Russian regions," he noted.
