MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Several districts in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky were left without electricity for about half an hour following a 6.9-magnitude earthquake on Monday, the regional division of the Emergencies Ministry said in a statement.
According to the statement, electricity service was restored at 7:31 a.m. Moscow time.
Yelizovo International Airport in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky reported no flight delays or cancellations in the wake of the earthquake.
Russian warships and auxiliary vessels docked at Pacific Fleet bases on the Kamchatka peninsula, as well as infrastructure in naval base towns and waterfront fleet berthage facilities were unaffected, and overall fleet readiness remained at normal levels, Captain 3rd Rank Ilya Kolesnikov, Eastern Military District spokesman for the Pacific Fleet, assured reporters.
A 6.9-magnitude earthquake was registered in Avacha Bay, 44 kilometers from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at about 3:00 p.m. local time (6:00 a.m. Moscow time) on Monday. Witnesses report that people were running out to the streets and that moving automobiles were carried away by the force of the earthquake.
Videos were posted on social media showing collapsed tiles and plastic ceilings inside various premises as well as broken merchandise that had fallen from store shelves.
