TOKYO, April 1. /TASS/. Russia is ready to consider providing Indonesia with warships if Jakarta is interested, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergey Tolchenov said.

Earlier, the Russian Pacific Fleet press service reported the arrival of a detachment of ships, consisting of the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky diesel-electric submarine, the corvette Gromky, and the Andrey Stepanov seagoing tug at the port of Jakarta for a port call.

"Perhaps in the future, Indonesia could [receive] similar ships from Russia to strengthen its defense capability. <...> Military-technical cooperation is a natural and integral part [of our bilateral relations]. We are ready to provide them," the Jakarta Globe newspaper quoted the diplomat as saying. The ambassador declined to comment on whether official dialogue on ship deliveries was underway between the parties. He noted that the government would not announce it, "even if such negotiations were underway."
