Russian food supplies to Kenya soar by 80% year-on-year in 2022 — Agroexport

According to analysts, Kenya also imports Russian sunflower oil, but amid high global on the global market, the volume of supplies in 2022 in value terms decreased by 39% compared to 2021

MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. The volume of exports of agricultural products from Russia to Kenya in 2022 soared by 80% year-on-year in value terms and by 43% year-on-year in physical terms. This is according to a statement by the Agroexport Federal Center for Export Development under the Russian Agriculture Ministry.

"In 2022, Russian agricultural exports to Kenya grew by 43% in physical terms and by 80% in value terms," the statement says.

The statement does not contain absolute figures of the cost and volume of exports.

According to Agroexport, wheat is the main agricultural export to Kenya and last year its deliveries increased by 44%. As a result, Kenya came close to the top 10 countries buying Russian cereals, ranking eleventh. Wheat export earnings increased by 83%.

According to analysts, Kenya also imports Russian sunflower oil, but amid high global on the global market, the volume of supplies in 2022 in value terms decreased by 39% compared to 2021.

The structure of Russian exports also includes soft drinks, the volume of deliveries of which increased by 58% in value terms over the year. In 2022, Russia exported ice cream to Kenya for the first time.

According to Agroexport, the estimated volume of the potential supply of agricultural products from Russia to Kenya is $330 million. The most promising positions are wheat, corn, peas, and beans. There is also export potential for ready-to-eat products, in particular, ice cream.
