Hainan duty free stores introduce additional discounts until the end of the year

Some stores are offering discounts up to 35%

SANYA, October 25. /TASS/. Duty free stores operating in the Chinese province of Hainan have announced the introduction of additional discounts of up to 35% on certain categories of products until the end of the year, the Hainan Daily reported.

According to the newspaper, one store in Qionghai city as well as two duty free stores per each shopping mall and Sanya and Haikou airports are participating in the promo. The special offer period will last until December 31 this year.

The Sanya store has introduced discounts on 720 international brands, 160 of which are participating in such a promo ffor the first time. Among the discounted products are 68 types of perfumes and cosmetic products. In some cases, the discount is up to 35%.

There are currently nine duty-free stores on the island: two of them are located in Haikou province's administrative center, the rest in the resort town of Sanya in the south and in the coastal town of Boao in the northeast. Another major duty-free mall in Haikou will be opened in June 2022.

The pilot program for the development of duty free stores in China's Hainan province was launched by the Chinese government in 2011. Since July 1 last year the island's authorities have increased from 30 thousand yuan to 100 thousand (from $4,2 thousand to $ 14,2 thousand) the quota for one person for purchases at duty free stores of the province. The list of duty-free goods was also expanded from 38 to 45 items.
