Authorities in the southern Chinese province of Hainan registered more than 5.8 thousand foreign trade enterprises in the first three quarters of this year, almost 2.3 times more than the same period last year. This was reported by the Customs Administration of Haikou City (the province's administrative center).
"Hainan's foreign trade situation is steadily improving. In particular, rapid development has been noted in the field of private enterprise," the agency said in a statement. "In the first three quarters of this year, Hainan registered 5,831 foreign trade enterprises, a 128% year-on-year increase," the document said.
The trade volume of private enterprises increased 2.6 times to 49.09 billion yuan (about $7.67 billion) during the period, it said. Trade volume of state-owned enterprises was 27.69 billion yuan (about $4.33 billion), up 47.7% year on year.
Hainan's foreign trade in the first three quarters of this year was 101.35 billion yuan (about $15.83 billion at current exchange rates), up 60.4% year on year. In 2020 the province's foreign trade increased by 3% to 93.3 billion yuan (about $ 14.6 billion at the exchange rate at the time of publication).
