Hainan opens traffic on a new highway between Wuzhishan and Sanya

HAIKOU, March 27. /TASS/. The traffic was launched on a new high-speed highway on Hainan, which connected Wuzhishan and Haitang Bay in Sanya. According to www.hinews.cn, the track called Shanhai was officially opened on March 26.

The total length of the four-lane motorway reaches 56 km. The maximum speed limit is 100 km / h. The completion of this project means that all counties in the Hainan province are now linked by expressways. This route will contribute to the economic development of the island and the rise of rural areas.

One of the most difficult sections during the construction was a tunnel in a mountainous area near the city of Wuzhishan, where the homonymous mountains, popular with tourists, are located. Its installation was completed in October 2020. The 4.8 km long tunnel is the longest in the Hainan province. It is designed for the movement of vehicles in both directions at a speed of no more than 100 km/h.

The construction of road infrastructure on Hainan is an important part of the government's plans to turn the province into an international center for tourism and consumption. The Chinese island is often referred to as "Eastern Hawaii" - natural landscapes, tropical forests, a developed hotel chain, combined with beaches and a coastline stretching along more than 1,900 kilometers, drawing guests from the most remote parts of the world to the island.
