CAIRO, March 20. /TASS/. The Palestinian movement Hamas remains in talks with intermediaries about the Gaza ceasefire deal and insists that Israel comply with the initial version of the agreement instead of suggesting a new proposal, Hamas Spokesperson Abdul Latif Al-Qanou said.
"Talks with intermediaries about the ceasefire deal are ongoing. We are working to make Israel respect the terms of the deal that was made earlier and abandon its own plans," he wrote on Telegram.
According to Al-Qanou, Hamas "remains committed to the agreement" signed in mid-January and seeks to make sure that "all Israeli troops leave Gaza."
Hamas official Abdul Rahman Shadid told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that the movement had received Israel's ceasefire proposals through intermediaries. However, in his words, Hamas believes that the proposals are incomplete and cannot guarantee an end to military activities. He did not provide any details of Israel’s initiatives.
On March 18, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out large-scale attacks on Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said the move was due to Hamas' rejection of proposals made during talks with intermediaries and US special envoy Steve Witkoff. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, more than 436 people have been killed and at least 678 injured in the latest round of violence.
Sky News Arabia reported on March 20, citing medical sources, that the death toll had risen to 700, while over 900 people had suffered injuries.
