LONDON, February 18. /TASS/. European leaders stated during an informal gathering in Paris on February 17 that they were prepared to extend security guarantees to Ukraine, contingent on the level of American backing, Reuters reported, citing sources.
"We are prepared to offer security guarantees, but the specifics will be negotiated with all involved parties, based on the level of support from the United States," a source commented.
European leaders also cautioned that it would be risky for Ukraine to halt hostilities before a formal peace accord with Russia is in place.
Eight European nations convened an informal session on Ukraine in Paris on February 17, following an initiative by French President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting included the presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, as well as NATO's secretary general. The discussions lasted around three hours and concluded without a joint statement.
