Washington to host farewell ceremony for ex-US President Carter — Biden

A large-scale farewell ceremony will be held in the American capital

WASHINGTON, December 30. /TASS/. A large-scale farewell ceremony for the 39th US President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100, will be held in the American capital, incumbent US President Joe Biden announced during a speech broadcast on the White House website.

"We're going to hold a major service in Washington, DC, in behalf of him," he said, expressing condolences to Carter's family. Biden added that preparations for the farewell service had already begun, with the former president's relatives agreeing on the timing of the ceremony.

When asked what lessons US President-elect Donald Trump could learn from Carter, the White House host replied, "Decency, decency, decency." He added that Carter would never disregard people in need or humiliate them because of their appearance.

"Jimmy Carter stands as a model of what it means to live a life of meaning and purpose," Biden emphasized. He believes it is wrong to see Carter as a reflection of a "bygone era." "I see a man not only of our times, but for all times," the president said. In his opinion, "America and the world <...> lost a remarkable leader.".
