Syria not ready to engage in new war — opposition

According to the opposition leader, "the country is moving toward development, reconstruction, and stability"

RABAT, December 11. /TASS/. Syrian opposition leader Ahmed al-Sharaa stated that his country is not prepared to enter another war, as its people are exhausted from years of conflict.

"People are tired of the war, and that is why the country is not ready to enter a new one," the Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel quoted him as saying.

He stated that there was "fear in Syria caused by the presence of [Bashar] Assad's regime."

"Now that it has fallen, the country is moving toward development, reconstruction, and stability," al-Sharaa explained.

In late November, armed opposition militias launched a large-scale offensive against the positions of the Syrian army. On December 8, they entered Damascus, after which government troops left the city. President Bashar Assad resigned and fled the country. On December 10, Mohammed al-Bashir, who has led the so-called Salvation Government formed by the opposition in the Idlib province in January 2024, announced his appointment as head of the Syrian transitional government.
