Syria’s Assad points out attempts to divide Middle East according to Western interests

Bashad Assad noted that "this escalation will only strengthen the resilience of Syria and its army" in its future standoff with the radicals and the elimination of the terrorist underground across the entire country

BEIRUT, December 2. /TASS/. The resurgence of terrorists in Syria reflects attempts to divide the Middle East and reshape the region according to Western interests, Syrian President Bashar Assad said during a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian.

"During the phone call, President Assad reaffirmed that the intensification of terrorist activity reflects the underlying goal to divide the region, fragment its countries, and once again reshape the maps according to the interests of America and the West," Assad’s office said on its Telegram channel.

Assad noted that "this escalation will only strengthen the resilience of Syria and its army" in its future standoff with the radicals and the elimination of the terrorist underground across the entire country.

On the morning of November 27, formations of the extremist group Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in Russia) carried out a large-scale attack in northern Syria.

According to the Syrian Armed Forces command, the terrorists attempted an offensive on villages and cities protected by the Syrian army, military facilities, and continued attacking the government forces' positions. On November 30, the Armed Forces command announced strikes on positions of the militants who had managed to infiltrate multiple blocks of the city of Aleppo. According to the Defense Ministry, the army was forced to regroup in order to preserve the lives of civilians and prepare for a counterattack.
