SUKHUM, November 15. /TASS/. Representatives of Abkhazia's opposition have demanded the resignation of President Aslan Bzhania along with the introduction of a moratorium on the ratification of the investment agreement with Russia, an opposition representative said.
"I think he is illegitimate, he does not represent the interests of our people. <...> In addition to demanding the resignation of the president, we demand that the parliament impose a moratorium on the agreement and on the law on apartments," former lawmaker Natali Smyr said.
In case the authorities do not accept the opposition's demands, she called on the protesters not to leave the square around the complex of government buildings. A TASS correspondent reported that another opposition figure, Garry Kokaya, also addressed the protesters, saying that "there will be no compromise, the president must apologize to his people and resign."
On November 15, Abkhazia’s parliament was to consider the issue of ratification of the agreement with Russia on the implementation of investment projects by Russian legal entities on the territory of the republic. The session was canceled because the deputies did not approve the agenda. The opposition disagreed and demanded that the parliament be reconvened to consider the issue in its entirety.
Several hundred people protested in front of the parliament. They then managed to surround the entire complex of government buildings. Abkhazia's Security Council described the situation as tense.
