MADRID, December 7. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is facing mounting resistance from the US and Europe over further support for Kiev, Spain’s El Pais newspaper writes.
The paper points out that the Ukrainian leader recently canceled a video link address to US senators at a closed-door briefing on the allocation of additional funding for Kiev.
The newspaper writes that Zelensky never misses an opportunity to address officials from one of his key allies. The president’s move was interpreted primarily as a sign of his nervousness in the face of the mounting challenges he is facing on the international stage and in the conflict with Russia, the paper notes. Sources close to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry told El Pais that what was going on in the US could be indicative of hardships to come in 2024, particularly with an election campaign underway in the United States.
The European Union is also stirring the pot, as evidenced by Hungary’s position on Ukraine’s EU membership and disagreements between member states on funding Kiev aid, El Pais writes.
In the meantime, the lack of progress in the conflict with Russia and Kiev showing no signs of being able to advance militarily in 2024 are fueling domestic discontent in Ukraine, the paper adds.
