Group of Seven makes no concrete decision thus far to impose sanctions on Russian diamonds

The G7 reiterated the "call for third parties to immediately cease providing material support" to Russia "or face severe costs"

TOKYO, November 8. /TASS/. Member countries of the Group of Seven (G7) failed to agree upon any specific decision on imposing a coordinated set of sanctions on exports of Russian diamonds, according to a statement by the G7 nations’ foreign ministers and the office of the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

In particular, they reiterated the "call for third parties to immediately cease providing material support" to Russia "or face severe costs."

According to the statement, "in order to reduce the revenues that Russia extracts from its exports, we will accelerate our consultation on energy, metals, and all non-industrial diamonds, including those mined, processed or produced in Russia." The document also underscores the intention of the G7 countries to strengthen coordination efforts in imposing sanctions on Russia in the area of critical goods and technologies.
