Serbian president thanks Russia for supplies of Sputnik V vaccine

BELGRADE, February 15. /TASS/. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has thanked Russia for supplies of the Sputnik V anti-coronavirus vaccine, the press service of the Serbian leader said on Monday after his meeting with visiting Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov.

"President Vucic thanked for the supplies of the Sputnik V vaccine. The sides spoke about the implementation of Serbia’s plans to manufacture the vaccine on its territory with the assistance from Russian specialists and with the use of the Russian technology. The Russian side highly assessed the work of the Torlak Institute of Virology and announced the continuation of consultations on further cooperation," it said.

"The president said that the two countries have good strategic relations and stressed the importance of Russia’s active support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty," the press service said.

The sides discussed joint infrastructure and energy projects and set the task of increasing bilateral trade up to four billion US dollars. They also discussed new projects in the energy and infrastructure sectors that are at a stage of planning.

The Russian deputy prime minister congratulated the Serbian leader on Serbia’s Statehood Day and Vucic congratulated Borisov on being awarded the Order of the Republic of Serbia.

Vucic said after the conversation that Serbia would build relevant production lines with the assistance from Russian specialists. According to Serbia’s health ministry, packaging of Russian Sputnik V vaccines will begin in two to three months and mass production will be launched by the yearend.
