Invasion of Capitol by Trump supporters - act of "domestic terrorism", capital mayor says

Muriel Bowser also stressed that "the country remains strong" and democratic institutions continue to operate

WASHINGTON DC, January 7. / TASS /. Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser on Thursday called the incursion of supporters of incumbent President Donald Trump into the Capitol as an act of domestic terrorism.

Bowser addressed reporters and told them she would give the latest news on the "domestic terrorism that place in the capital yesterday."

According to Bowser, everyone involved in storming of the Congress building, damage to state property and "an attempt on our democracy" will be found and brought to justice. She added that the Federal Bureau of Investigation has already set up a special website to report on those who participated in the January 6 riots. Bowser also stressed that "the country remains strong" and democratic institutions continue to operate, which means that President-elect Joseph Biden will be sworn in despite these actions by the out-of-mind President and those who believe in baseless conspiracy theories.

On January 6, Trump supporters stormed into the US Congress building to prevent the approval of the results of the last November 3 presidential elections in the country, which was won by the Democratic candidate Biden. Police and special forces soon freed the Capitol building from pro-Trump protesters who broke into it, and lawmakers were able to continue and successfully complete the process of confirming Biden as the elected Head of State. According to the latest figures, four people were killed in the protests, and more than 70 protesters detained.
