MOSCOW, March 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and all Emiratis on the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, the Kremlin press service reported.
"Vladimir Putin congratulated Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the people of the Emirates on the holy month of Ramadan," the Kremlin reported.
Ramadan is one of the major religious events for Muslims. Fasting during this holy month is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with professing faith in one God, praying five times a day, giving alms to those in need, and making pilgrimages to Mecca. During Ramadan, devout Muslims abstain from food and water during daylight hours and devote themselves to worship, spiritual reflection, and good deeds.
This year, Ramadan ends in late March. Following tradition, believers celebrate it for three days.
