TASS to open offices in six more African countries — senior executive

Currently, the agency has offices in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. TASS plans to open offices in six more countries of the African continent by 2026, namely in Algeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Uganda, TASS First Deputy Director General Mikhail Gusman said.

"In 2025-2026, it is planned to open TASS representative offices in Algeria, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cameroon, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Uganda," Gusman said at a session of the expert council on information cooperation with Africa.

Thus, the number of TASS press centers in Africa will increase twofold. Currently, the agency has offices in Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.

"In the summer of 2025, TASS intends to organize a press tour across Russian cities for journalists from leading African media outlets," he said.

Within this context, the first deputy director general noted that TASS closely cooperates with African news agencies. Among them are members of the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA), the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA), and the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN).

Furthermore, he highlighted that a unique format is being pursued as part of the "Formula of Power" television program co-produced by TASS and the Rossiya-24 TV channel, thanks to which interviews with more than 30 African leaders have been broadcast. "Special episodes were also dedicated to Russia-Africa summits, the African Union, and the efforts of African countries to liberate themselves from colonial dependency," he said.

Strengthening its partnership with African media, TASS acts as "the catalyst and organizer of unique Russia-Africa Media Forums of heads of news agencies," Gusman said. These events are held as part of the Russia-Africa Summit and the Russia-Africa Economic Forum.

The first Russia-Africa Media Forum took place in October 2019 and was attended by the heads of more than 20 leading African news agencies. The second forum gathered over 30 heads of Africa's media outlets. They were always given the opportunity to take part in meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other senior officials.
