About 100 Russian students study central Hainan Island's culture

According to the Hainan Daily newspaper, the trip was organized by the Hainan College of Economics and Business, the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, also known as RUDN, and the Lyceum of the National Research University Higher School of Economics

HAIKOU /China/, January 21. /TASS/. About 100 students from several Russian educational institutions visited the central part of the southern Chinese province of Hainan in January and studied the indigenous local culture, the Hainan Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the trip to the heart of the island was organized by the Hainan College of Economics and Business, the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, also known as RUDN, and the Lyceum of the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Russia's youth familiarized themselves with the tradition of tea cultivation, oil painting, dance and musical creativity of Baisha Li Autonomous County, as well as Tunchang County.

The young Russians were also shown textile weaving techniques of the Li ethnic group, an autochthonous people who settled the island more than 3,000 years ago. The students learned a lot about the traditions and customs of Hainan residents and had an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful climate and ecology of the tropics.

Hainan is stepping up cooperation with other countries in the field of science and education. Local authorities strongly support the opening of branches of leading foreign universities on the island, which will train highly qualified specialists necessary for the successful implementation of the development program of Hainan Free Trade Port. The province is also working on developing an international research cluster, which will be open to young scientists from all over the world.
