FSB thwarts terror plot on Kuybyshevskaya Railway in Samara Region, suspect in custody

The suspect confirmed his criminal intentions and involvement in the terrorist organization

TASS, December 27. The Samara Region branch of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) thwarted a planned terrorist attack on the Kuybyshevskaya Railway, detaining and taking into custody a Samara resident suspected of preparing the attack, the regional FSB press service reported.

"The Federal Security Service of Russia for the Samara Region has interdicted the illegal activities of a Samara resident involved in preparing a terrorist act. The citizen, who is a supporter of the Freedom of Russia Legion (FRL) organization, which is banned in Russia, had planned to carry out a terrorist attack on the Kuybyshevskaya Railway’s transport infrastructure. A criminal case has been opened against the suspect. The Samara District Court has ordered preventive measures in the form of detention in relation to the accused," the FSB statement says.

On November 15, FSB officers, with assistance from the Omega Special Rapid Response Unit (SOBR) of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) for the Samara Region, detained the would-be terrorist. They seized Molotov cocktails, computer equipment, and mobile devices used for communicating with FRL representatives and coordinating actions from his home. The suspect confirmed his criminal intentions and involvement in the terrorist organization, stating that he had chosen the location for the planned crime.
