The formal ceremony of delivering a humanitarian shipment of fertilizers from Russia's Uralchem-Uralkali Group to Malawi was held on Monday in the city of Chitedze, home to one of the African country's main agricultural centers, a representative of Malawi's Ministry of Agriculture told TASS.
The representative of the Ministry expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the delivery of fertilizers at the most critical time for Malawian farmers.
A representative of the Uralchem-Uralkali group handed over a special certificate for the transfer of 20,000 tons of fertilizers to the Malawian authorities. Members of the Malawian government, Russian Ambassador to Zimbabwe and Malawi Nikolay Krasilnikov, and representatives of the country's business and public organizations attended the ceremony.
The fertilizers will be distributed to Malawian farms. The agricultural season in the country has just begun.
The 20,000 tons of fertilizers being transferred to Malawi are the first to arrive in Africa as part of the humanitarian supplies of Russia's Uralchem-Uralkali Group from warehouses in the European Union.
