Moscow to cut COVID-19 bed capacity in hospitals by one-third

The positive dynamics in the epidemiological situation makes it possible to withdraw about 4,700 hospital beds from working with COVID-19

MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Two Moscow hospitals with a 2,000-bed capacity are returning to their normal work, while reserve hospitals are cutting the intake of patients, the capital’s Deputy Mayor for Social Development Anastasiya Rakova announced on Thursday.

"The positive dynamics in the epidemiological situation, which we have seen recently, makes it possible to withdraw about 4,700 hospital beds from working with COVID-19. Two of the largest hospitals with a 2,000-bed capacity, re-equipped for the COVID-19 patients, are returning to their normal work. These are the buildings of No. 52 and 5 Filatov hospitals. Furthermore, the intake of COVID-19 patients in reserve hospitals will be cut: about 2,700 beds are removed from work," Rakova stated.

The deputy mayor specified that the intake of coronavirus patients had stopped in three buildings of Sokolniki hospital, while Moscow’s hospitals in Krylatsky and Kommunarka would reduce the number of beds reserved for COVID-19 patients. Thus, the capital’s current bed capacity in hospitals will amount to 9,000.

In the near future, Moscow’s hospitals will undergo special sanitization, whereas health workers will be tested for coronavirus.
