Russia appreciates Myanmar’s position on Ukraine conflict — top security official

Sergey Shoigu called the Myanmar prime minister a "dear friend" and noted that there is "a lot to discuss" at the current meeting

MOSCOW, March 4. /TASS/. Russia values Myanmar’s viewpoint regarding the Ukraine conflict, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu said.

"Moscow greatly appreciates Naypyidaw's position on the Ukraine crisis," Shoigu said during talks with Myanmar Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing, who arrived in Russia for an official visit.

This year marks the 77th anniversary of the establishment of Russia-Myanmar diplomatic relations, the Russian Security Council secretary stressed. Shoigu noted that during his visit, the Myanmar prime minister will meet with Russia's President Vladimir Putin and hold a series of talks with officials from the country's parliament, government and defense ministry.

Shoigu called the Myanmar prime minister a "dear friend" and noted that there is "a lot to discuss" at the current meeting. The Myanmar prime minister admitted that he was also glad for such an opportunity, adding that over the years, cooperation between the two countries has been developing in various spheres, including security issues. He thanked Russia for supporting Myanmar in the international arena. "Today, cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries is strengthening," the prime minister emphasized.

"At present, Russia is under pressure from Western countries as well, but Myanmar is a small country, so the pressure [on it] is greater," the Myanmar's prime minister remarked.
