Kursk governor condemns Ukraine's killing of civilians in local village as genocide

The Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings against the Ukrainian militants

KURSK, January 21. /TASS/. The killing of civilians in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye in the Sudzha district of the Kursk Region, whose bodies were found after liberation, was an act of genocide and a crime against humanity, Alexander Khinshtein, the region's acting governor has said.

"Just like the rest of the country, I was shocked to hear the terrible news: during the liberation of the village of Russkoye Porechnoye in the Sudzha district, our soldiers found the bodies of tortured and murdered civilians in cellars. Most of them were innocent elderly people who had not the slightest chance of fighting off armed and trained militants! It is impossible to call this anything but genocide and a crime against humanity!" he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee has launched criminal proceedings against the Ukrainian militants, who committed the terrorist act against civilians.

According to the acting governor, it is impossible to evacuate the bodies for the time being although the village has been liberated. This will be done as soon as the frontline situation permits.

"The government of the Kursk Region will provide all the necessary assistance to the families of the victims, including the funeral ceremonies. I am convinced that the brutes who committed this heinous crime, as well as their commanders, will definitely be properly punished," Khinshtein wrote.
