Kremlin spokesman notes Europe’s obvious clampdown on Russian journalists

The statement came in response to the German government’s decision to shut down the German bureau of Russia’s Channel One

ASTANA, November 28. /TASS/. Moscow is aware of Europe’s obvious clampdown on Russian journalists by all possible means, including by making it impossible for them to extend their accreditation, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov told Channel One.

"We are witnessing a clear and discernible policy of oppression against Russian journalists," he said. "Our broadcasters are not allowed to broadcast; our journalists are not allowed to perform their professional duty, they are denied the opportunity to extend their accreditations - this is what freedom of speech, European style, looks like."

The statement came in response to the German government’s decision to shut down the German bureau of Russia’s Channel One. Two correspondents of the Berlin correspondent office have been ordered to leave the country due to unspecified visa problems. In response, Moscow made the decision to expel two journalists of Germany’s ARD media group.
