Russia making every effort to prevent major war in Middle East — Putin

The Russian president said that Russia believes the only way to return the parties to the path of reconciliation and achieve a sustainable, long-term settlement is through a universally recognized international legal framework

MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. Russia is making active efforts to prevent the conflict in the Middle East from escalating into a major war, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized at a ceremony of receiving credentials from foreign ambassadors in the Kremlin.

"Since the Israeli ambassador is present here, I would like to say that Russia is making active efforts to prevent the current aggravation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from escalating into a major war in the Middle East," Putin emphasized.

He added that Russia believes the only way to return the parties to the path of reconciliation and achieve a sustainable, long-term settlement is through a universally recognized international legal framework.

According to Putin, the key condition for restoring peace in the region is the implementation of the two-state solution, as outlined in the Security Council resolution and endorsed by the UN General Assembly.
