MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. The exercises of the US, Japan and South Korea do not contribute to the establishment of the negotiation process for the political and diplomatic settlement of the Korean Peninsula issues, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing.

"We are closely following the development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula. The US, South Korea and Japan continue to increase their military activity there, provoking further escalation and tensions. In this regard, we have noted the unprecedented trilateral air exercises on October 22, which included an American strategic bomber. Such a show of force does not contribute to the establishment of the negotiation process for the political and diplomatic settlement of the problems of the Korean Peninsula," the diplomat pointed out.

She noted that the US is "adding fuel to the fire of global confrontation all over the planet." "And they are looking at this region in this very context," Zakharova added.
