Russian MP slams EU plans of further anti-Russian sanctions as reckless and short-sighted

The current situation was described as the West’s total hybrid war on Russia

MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. A senior Russian lawmaker has slammed the European Union’s plans to impose another package of anti-Russian sanctions as reckless and short-sighted as it drives the situation into a dead end.

"All the decisions to impose tough anti-Russian restrictions were prepared far ahead February 2022 and are passed by the capitals of the collective West at the command of Washington. It is nothing but a madness exercise as it is driving the situation, already difficult, into a black dead end of global confrontation," Grigory Karasin, chairman of the international committee of Russia’s Federation Council (upper parliament house), said on Friday, commenting on the European Union’s plans to impose a sixth package of anti-Russian sanctions.

According to Karasin, the European Union’s plans to impose another package od sanctions are reckless and short-sighted. "They are seeking to take Russia in a frontal attack in all spheres," he noted. "But, these efforts are futile. They only consolidate our nation, set it for self-possession in a difficult situation. We get united and rely on our own forces and on those who respect us. I am convinced that we will win in this confrontation."

He described the current situation as the West’s total hybrid war on Russia. This war, "brazen and shameless, is geared not only against the Russian people but also at deceiving and intimidating the world community," he said. "Facts are being twisted, gloating is voiced over human casualties, while practically all Russian information resources are blocked," he said.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country.

Following this step, the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom and several other countries announced sanctions against Russia individuals and legal entities.
