LONDON, March 11. /TASS/. One of the crew members of the container ship Solong, which collided with an oil tanker in the North Sea this morning, is missing, Sky News reported citing Ernst Russ, the owner of the company that owns Solong.
"13 of the 14 Solong crew members have been brought safely shore. Efforts to locate the missing crew member are ongoing," Russ said, adding that the Solong and the chemical tanker Stena Immaculate both sustained significant damage in the collision.
"Both vessels have sustained significant damage in the impact of the collision and the subsequent fire," he said.
The incident occurred at 09:48 (12:48 Moscow time) off the northeast coast of England. According to preliminary information, the container ship Solong, flying the Portuguese flag, collided with the US-flagged tanker Stena Immaculate, which was at anchor. As a result, a cargo tank on the Stena Immaculate ruptured, spilling jet fuel into the sea. Explosions occurred on the tanker and both ships caught fire.
