TOKYO, March 19. /TASS/. Trade turnover between Russia and Japan fell by 12.58% year-on-year in February to 91.1 bln yen (about $610 mln at the current exchange rate), as follows from TASS calculations based on statistics published by the Japanese Ministry of Finance.
The volume of imports from Russia for the reporting period decreased by 10% year-on-year, while the volume of exports to Russia fell by 22.1% year-on-year.
In February, Japan increased imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia by 3.8% year-on-year. As in previous months, it did not buy Russian oil, for which a price ceiling was introduced jointly with the G7 countries, with the exception of supplies from Sakhalin-2, linked to LNG supplies from this project.
In February, Japan reduced supplies of passenger cars to Russia by 23.8%, and spare parts and components by 26.8%.
In February 2025, Japan increased imports of Russian grain by 132.3%, but reduced imports of vegetables by 51.5%. Japan also reduced imports of coal by 79.4%, steel by 94.7%, and non-ferrous metals by 41.9%. Meanwhile, it increased supplies of plastic products to Russia by 149%, and paper products by 24.1%.
