NATO has no plans of taking Ukraine under its wing — LPR official

The official reiterated that, in line with its membership rules, NATO does not accept into its ranks countries that have unsettled territorial disputes

MOSCOW, October 8. /TASS/. It makes no sense for NATO to undertake any commitments on protecting Ukraine, the alliance will eventually abandon it as was the case with Afghanistan, the head of the LPR mission to Moscow, Rodion Miroshnik, has told TASS.

The official reiterated that, in line with its membership rules, NATO does not accept into its ranks countries that have unsettled territorial disputes.

"Even if they don’t mention this provision all the time, it does not mean that they are going to grant membership to Ukraine and Georgia," he said.

NATO is already getting everything it wants from Ukraine, including its territory and population for warfare, Miroshnik told TASS.

"Even without membership, NATO is already getting everything it wants from Ukraine, and it is getting even more than it initially wanted. Ukraine has already provided its territory for a devastating war, and [offered] its people for killing," he said. "The national interests of the people of Ukraine are not protected and will not be protected, they won’t benefit [from the conflict] in any way."

In his opinion, the only Ukrainian social group that benefits from the crisis is "the puppet regime and elites, who were allowed to plunder the [international] aid."

"They are paying for that by sending their own people to the slaughter," Miroshnik added.

"It makes no sense for NATO to undertake commitments related to defending Ukraine. They will keep equipping it for as long as it is beneficial for them. After that, they would simply wrap up the operation, as was the case with Afghanistan," he said.
