TEHRAN, May 4. /TASS/. Iranian authorities will soon resume dialogue with Oman on developing new shipping regulations in the Gulf region, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced.
"Iran and Oman are coastal states bordering the Strait of Hormuz, so it is normal for them to share responsibility for ensuring the safety of navigation on this strategically important waterway. The talks focused on developing specific protocols and mechanisms to ensure the safe passage of ships," he noted during a weekly briefing.
According to Baghaei, these consultations between Tehran and Muscat may continue in the coming days.
On May 3, US President Donald Trump announced that on Monday morning, Middle East time, the US would launch Operation Project Freedom to escort ships through the Strait of Hormuz that had been stranded in the area due to the military conflict. According to Trump, the operation will focus on the safe evacuation of ships from the Strait of Hormuz. The president also stated that "if, in any way, this humanitarian process is interfered with, that interference will, unfortunately, have to be dealt with forcefully."
