WASHINGTON, May 2. /TASS/. Stephen Miller, United States homeland security advisor and White House deputy chief of staff for policy, is seen as the most probable candidate to be the next national security advisor, the Axios portal said, citing sources.
According to the portal, Miller is "one of the president's longest-serving and most-trusted aides," who is "the brain behind Trump's controversial" immigration policy.
Axios does not rule out that if Miller is appointed national security adviser, he may retain the position of the White House chief of staff. The Politico newspaper suggested earlier that US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff may replace Mike Waltz as national security advisor. Other potential contenders are Sebastian Gorka, the deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism, and US Presidential Envoy for Special Assignments Richard Grenell.
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his national security advisor Mike Waltz will be appointed the next United Nations ambassador and Secretary of State Marco Rubio will temporarily takeover Waltz’s responsibilities.
