CAIRO, November 29. /TASS/. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is conducting an operation in refugee camps in Jericho while simultaneously storming the city of Jenin in the West Bank, the WAFA news agency said.
Its sources in Jericho reported that Israeli troops had stormed the city from several directions. A bulldozer was brought to the Aqabat Jaber camp while IDF servicemen took positions in the middle of the Ein Sultan camp. According to the news agency, the military was using live rounds to disperse the Palestinians. There have been no reports of casualties.
According to Al Jazeera, the Israeli army also attacked the Jalazone refugee camp north of Ramallah. It published videos of troops storming the camp’s residential quarters.
Earlier, Al Jazeera reported that the Israeli military wounded eight people while storming Jenin. Troops blocked access to the city and set up checkpoints around it. Hundreds of soldiers are taking part in the operation supported by over 50 units of equipment, including bulldozers which dig up roads. According to the TV channel, Israeli troops are blocking the entrances of Jenin’s three largest hospitals, not letting ambulances drive out to the wounded.
Israel’s most recent major counter-terrorist operation was held on November 26. Then, five Palestinians were killed in a shootout while 21 were detained on suspicions of being involved in terror activities.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when militants from the Gaza-based Palestinian radical group Hamas staged a surprise incursion into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its attack as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel has declared a state of war readiness; announced a total blockade of the Gaza Strip, home to 2.3 million Palestinians; and began delivering air strikes on the enclave and certain parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are underway in the West Bank as well.
