MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. Moscow’s latest AI-based portable kinetic drone interception system, the Yolka, is already being used to protect Russia's critical facilities, a spokesperson for the manufacturer told TASS.
"The Yolka AI-based portable kinetic interception system, developed and manufactured in Moscow, is gradually being integrated into the defense system for Russia’s critical facilities. The system complements existing air defense systems and enables a more effective response to air threats without replacing existing defenses. The system is currently being used in border areas and the special military operation zone in Ukraine, and is also being tested to protect other infrastructure," the company representatives said.
They clarified that the AI-powered system is also used to provide an additional layer of protection for energy and transport facilities, administrative centers, and strategic military installations. "The AI-based portable kinetic system responds to airborne threats, and its ease of use allows for the rapid integration of the Yolka into the defense system of critical facilities, providing an additional layer of infrastructure protection," the company added.
The Yolka is a portable interception system that destroys targets with kinetic energy, no warheads needed. It is designed to engage a wide range of targets, from FPV and reconnaissance drones to heavy aircraft-type attack drones. The Yolka weighs 1.3 kg and has a flight speed of up to 230 km/h. Its acquisition and engagement range is up to 3 km.
