NEW YORK, July 30. /TASS/. Sergei Berezin, a former Russian NHL player, has been arrested in the United States for suspected Medicaid fraud, wpbf.com reported.

Florida’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit claims that Sergei Berezin and his wife paid a Boca Raton-based company, American Advisory Associates, to get Medicaid and food stamp benefits for which they were unqualified and ineligible for, wbbf.com said.

According to Berezin’s arrest affidavit, during the course of the undercover investigation, Berezin told a confidential informant that he was making $100,000 in income from rental properties and training hockey players.

Berezin, currently an agent of hockey player Andrei Markov, was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1994 and played for a number of NHL teams, including the Washington Capitals and Chicago Blackhawks.
