Athletes not to be required to condemn Russia’s operation to take part in Olympics — IOC

The IOC reported that athletes from Russia and Belarus would not be allowed to participate in any team events

PARIS, March 19. /TASS/. The International Olympic Committee ((IOC) will not insist that Russian and Belarusian athletes sign any additional document condemning Russia’s special military operation, IOC Director of National Olympic Committees (NOC) Relations and Olympic Solidarity James Macleod said.

"With regards to the conditions of participation form, the simple answer is no. we will not be asking AIN (Individual Neutral Athletes) athletes to sign anything in addition to what everyone else is signing. So as you will recall the IOC changed the condition of participation form for Paris 2024 for everyone to ask them to sign up to the IOC’s Olympic movement peace mission and that is applicable to every athlete that will be going to the Games and indeed every accredited person," he said.

On December 8, 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to compete in the Olympic Games in Paris under a neutral status. The IOC reported that athletes from Russia and Belarus would not be allowed to participate in any team events.

Participation in the Olympics will also be denied to those who actively support hostilities. Individuals associated with the army or national security organizations will not be allowed to compete in the Olympics. Officials will not be accredited to the competition. The display of official symbols of Russia and Belarus will be prohibited.
