About 30 fake bomb threats received by US polling stations nationwide — CBS

Around 17 fake bomb threats have targeted the swing state of Georgia alone

WASHINGTON, November 6. /TASS/. About 30 bomb threat hoaxes were received by US polling stations during Tuesday’s general election in the United States, CBS reported citing sources familiar with the investigation.

Around 17 fake bomb threats have targeted the swing state of Georgia alone. Two polling stations had to suspend the vote for about 30 minutes as a result.

Other battleground states that reported hoax threats were Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Battleground states, also known as swing states, include Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. They are critically important for the US presidential election, because the outcome of the vote there is unpredictable. At the same time, they have a large number of votes in the electoral college that can turn the tide of the election.

The US presidential election is taking place on November 5, with voters also selecting a third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives, and governors for 11 states and 2 territories.

Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris are vying for the presidency. Trump, who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021, is seeking a return to the White House after losing to Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Harris has been serving as vice president since January 2021.
