Russia’s Pantsyr-S1 among world’s most popular air defense systems — agency

It is noted that customers all over the world display their keen interest in Russia's air defense systems that have proven their worth in combat operations

DUBAI, November 13. /TASS/. The unique properties of the Russian-made Pantsyr-S1 anti-aircraft missile/artillery system has made it one of the most needed short-range air defense weapons on the world arms market, Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation told TASS at the Dubai Airshow 2023 on Monday.

"Russian air defense systems are rightly considered as the best in the world. We produce top-notch air defense weapons of all types: from short-range to long-range systems. In this regard, customers all over the world undoubtedly display their keen interest in our air defense systems that have proven their worth in combat operations. The Pantsyr is one of the world’s most needed systems produced by our defense industry. Its highest technical characteristics have always drawn the attention of foreign customers," the defense agency said.

Russia maintains versatile military-technical cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, it said.

"We discuss both the implementation of existing contracts and promising areas of cooperation with partners," the defense agency said.

The Pantsyr surface-to-air missile/gun system engineered by the Shipunov Design Bureau of Instrument-Making (part of High Precision Systems Group within the state tech corporation Rostec) is designed to shield military, administrative and industrial facilities and areas from enemy aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and precision weapons and to boost air defenses in repelling massive air strikes. The Russian Army operates the Pantsyr-S1 modification with a multi-channel system of locking on and tracking targets. It is capable of striking aerial targets flying at a speed of up to 1,000 m/s and at a distance of 200 meters to 20 km.

The Dubai Airshow is one of the world’s largest aerospace exhibitions held once every two years. Russia has been a participant in Dubai aerospace shows since 1993. This year, 20 national pavilions at the Dubai Airshow will demonstrate over 180 aircraft of more than 1,400 producers. The Dubai aerospace show is running on November 13-17.
