MOSCOW, May 6. /TASS/. Russia’s Investigative Committee on Friday said that as part of its investigation, it will establish the circumstances of abuse of a captured Russian serviceman by a Georgian mercenary.
"The Russian Investigative Committee as part of a criminal case will establish the circumstances of abuse of the Russian serviceman and assess them from a legal perspective as part of the criminal case under investigation," the press service of the committee said.
A video posted on a social network earlier showed a Georgian mercenary beating a captured Russian serviceman in Ukraine in an effort to make him say offensive phrases about Russia and the country’s government.
"Obviously, such behavior is a violation of the Geneva Convention requirements on the treatment of prisoners of war," the press service said. "The investigation will take steps to identify the persons involved in this crime.".
