Russia’s legislative election vote begins in the country’s eastern-most regions

The elections to the 8th Russian State Duma are scheduled for September 19, 2021, known as the Single Voting Day. The balloting process will span across three days - September 17, 18, and 19

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, September 16. /TASS/. The State Duma (lower house of parliament) elections have officially begun in Russia as the vote gets underway in the Kamchatsky and Chukotsky Regions. Polling stations in these two eastern-most regions of the country opened at 08:00 on September 17 (local time). The voting will be completed at 21:00 on September 19 after voting stations will be closed in the Kaliningrad Region, Russia’s western-most enclave.

Certain groups of citizens (residents of remote and hard-to-reach districts, employees of polar and meteorological stations, crews of ships at sea) had the opportunity to vote early, while Russians residing or staying overseas could cast their ballots ahead of time as well starting from September 3. According to Ella Pamfilova, head of Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), around 150,000 people voted early as of September 15.
