MOSCOW, February 11. /TASS/. Investigators from Russia’s Investigative Committee have uncovered more evidence of Russian prisoners of war being tortured by Ukrainian troops.
"Employees of the Russian Investigative Committee’s military investigation bodies speak with all Russian soldiers released from Ukrainian captivity. The data they received indicate systemic violations of the Geneva Convention by the Ukrainian side related to their treatment of prisoners of war. Russian servicemen told investigators that physical violence had been used by Ukrainian troops against prisoners of war. Ukrainian militants apparently enjoyed perpetrating these crimes," the Investigative Committee said.
Thus, one released Russian prisoner of war recalled that he was taken prisoner after receiving a serious wound in combat. When he was held in a detention facility in the city of Kharkov he sustained bodily injuries. Authorities at the detention center forced him to sign documents discrediting the Russian army and join Ukrainian territorial defense units.
Another Russian soldier was held by Ukrainian militants in a pit and tortured to get him to disclose information about the Russian army. "These data will be attached to the criminal case opened against Ukrainian soldiers under part 1 of article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code (the use of prohibited means and methods during an armed conflict," the Investigative Committee added.
