MOSCOW, December 6. /TASS/. The ball in Russia's contacts with the new US president is on Donald Trump's side, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson.

"We respect any choice which is made by the people when they vote. We respect the choice of the American people. As [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin said, we are and we have been open all along to the contacts with the current administration," Lavrov said. "We hope that when Donald Trump is inaugurated, we will understand. The ball, as President Putin said, is on their side," the top diplomat emphasized.

"We never severed our contacts, our ties in the economy, trade, security, anything," the foreign minister pointed out.
