MOSCOW, November 5. /TASS/. The comprehensive strategic partnership treaty between Russia and North Korea reflects the geopolitical reality when the West is flooding the Asia-Pacific region with arms, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said at a meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs.
"The need to conclude this agreement emerged for two reasons. First of all, this is a new nature of relations between Russia and North Korea which have shaped over the past several years," he said.
"The second reason is a new geopolitical situation which has emerged after 2022 as well as those processes that are unfolding in Northeast Asia today, around the Korean Peninsula. These processes are above all related to the policy promoted by the US and its allies in the region, which involves flooding this region with weapons, deploying new cutting-edge systems there, including with a nuclear component, and forming new military and political alliances," the diplomat noted.
The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during the Russian head of state’s visit to Pyongyang in June. The document provides for the development of economic ties between the two countries, military and technical cooperation as well as mutual military aid in the event of an attack on one of the parties to the agreement.
