Moldova’s attempts to control Russia’s participation in FAO session unacceptable — mission

The mission added that Russia is a full member of FAO, one of the largest producers of food, agricultural goods, and fertilizers

ROME, March 19. /TASS/. The attempts of the Moldovan authorities to determine Russia’s format of participation in the session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe is unacceptable, Russia’s Permanent Mission to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and other international organizations in Rome told TASS.

"This sets a dangerous precedent for the organization's work in general and is nothing more than a continuation of the trend towards the politicization of FAO's activities in the context of a tough situation with global food security," the permanent mission said in a statement.

The mission added that Russia is a full member of FAO, one of the largest producers of food, agricultural goods, and fertilizers not only in Europe, but around the world.

Earlier, Russian Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Vasnetsov told TASS that the country's Foreign Ministry does not want to see the Russian delegation at the session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Chisinau and proposes that the delegation participate in the videoconference format. The 34th session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe is scheduled to be held in Chisinau in May this year. It will be attended by FAO members from the Europe and Central Asia region, as well as representatives of UN funds, programs and specialized agencies.
